Apur Panchali is a 2014 Bengali film directed by Kaushik Ganguly and produced by Shree Venkatesh Films. It is based on the life of Subir Banerjee, the actor who played Apu in Pather Panchali (1955), the first film of Satyajit Ray's Apu trilogy. Director Kaushik Ganguly won the award of best director for Apur Panchali in the 44th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in November 2013. The director mentioned in an interview that he found similarities between certain parts of the life of Subir Banerjee and the iconic character Apu. The film uses several minutes of footage from Pather Panchali in its narrative.

Plot: The time is 1907, just after the partition of Bengal by Lord Curzon. A wave of anti-British passion is sweeping Bengal fanned by leaders such as Sandip (Soumitra Chatterjee). In the course of his political work, Sandip comes to the Estate of his friend Nikhil (Victor Bannerjee). Nikhil an aristocrat but progressive man, sympathises with the cause Sandip espouses but disapproves of the rabble rousing that Sandip does. At Nikhil's house, Sandip meets Bimala (Swatilekha Chattopadhyay), Nikhil's beautiful wife, who is encouraged by her husband to come out of strict purdah to meet Sandip. What starts as an intellectual discourse soon converts itself into a love triangle as Bimala is strongly attracted to Sandip. Then as the political events overtake them, their romantic involvement leads to tragic consequences.

Plot: Chandipur is an idyllic town made famous by a temple which attracts thousands of visitors. Dr Asoke Gupta (Soumitra Chatterjee) is the Chief Medical Officer in the local charitable hospital and a much admired man in the town. Dr. Gupta, puzzled by a sudden outbreak of gastric diseases in the town decides to investigate and to his horror finds that it is due to contaminated water from the great temple. But as soon as he makes public his findings and calls for the complete overhaul of the temple's water supply system, he comes up against a wall od opposition led by his brother Nisith (Dhritiman Chattopadhyay). Many of his erstwhile friends including the editor of the local newspaper (Dipankar Dey) turn away from him.
